An Evening with MIT D-Lab Founder, Amy Smith

Co-Creating Simple Innovations to Change Lives

Join us at the 3rd Annual Posner Center Innovators Dinner to learn about the power of simple design and support innovation in international development. The evening will feature Amy Smith, the Founder of MIT D-Lab, an international development program based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that includes over 20 MIT courses, six research groups, and field programs — all of which emphasize experiential learning, real-world projects, community-led development, scalability, and impact assessment.

Amy was selected as a 2004 MacArthur Fellow, and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential for her work promoting local innovation and technology creation. D-Lab connects university-level design curriculum with international field work through their unique Creative Capacity Building (CCB) approach that allows anyone to become an active creator of technology. Through CCB, participants are trained on key elements of the design process, and they use these skills to create or adapt technologies improve their lives and strengthen their communities.

Join us as we celebrate Amy and D-Lab’s transformational approach to international development. All proceeds from the evening will support the Posner Center’s efforts to promote learning and innovation within our network. Help us to continue providing programs that build the capacity of individual organizations, enabling them to improve their approach and impact in partner communities around the world.

The evening will include a social hour, followed by dinner and a formal program featuring a keynote address by Amy Smith.
