As the Executive Director of the Posner Center, Burke Fishburn leads the Posner Community in making Denver and Colorado an international hub and leader of collaborative global development. He brings a wealth of global public health, management, and strategic evaluation and planning expertise to our organization.
He served as a shipboard US Naval Officer then transitioned to an accidental public health career. He managed the US Department of Health and Human Services legislative program, became a senior advisor on food and drug safety policy, then built a policy and evaluation team for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office on Smoking and Health. In 2001, Burke made the move to global public health, first as a CDC Technical Officer on loan to the World Health Organization in Vietnam and other countries, and later as a WHO Regional Coordinator for the Tobacco Free Initiative responsible for anti-smoking activities in over 20 countries. Prior to directing the Posner Center, Burke founded and managed a series of consulting firms devoted to global public health.
