As the Executive Director of the Posner Center, Burke Fishburn leads our Posner Community in making Denver and Colorado an international hub and leader of collaborative global development. Prior to directing the Posner Center, Burke founded and managed a series of consulting firms devoted to global public health. He brings a wealth of global public health, management and overseas development expertise to our organization.
His professional life started as a shipboard US Naval Officer. From there he began a public health career, first managing the US Department of Health and Human Services legislative program, transitioned to advising on food and drug safety policy, then building a policy and evaluation team in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office on Smoking and Health. In 2001, Burke made the move to global public health, first as a CDC Technical Officer on loan to the World Health Organization in Vietnam and other countries, and later as a WHO Regional Coordinator for the Tobacco Free Initiative responsible for anti-smoking activities in over 20 countries.
