Kimetrica’s Journey with Population Explorer

After the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, leadership from Kimetrica realized that without the accurate and timely answer to one simple question: Who lives in the affected area? – there was a severe delay in the delivery of life-saving assistance. In response, they created Population Explorer, a tool that presents curated demographic data for every square kilometer of the world with easy-to-use mapping and visualizations. Originally funded by USAID to support the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), Population Explorer has now been leveraged for many different uses ranging from on-demand car sharing and rentals to identifying best locations for retail facilities, schools, and cell towers.

You will hear from Kimetrica COO Rob Rose and Population Explorer Strategist Kyle Weaver about their journey from conception to deployment. We’ll explore the big-picture business model and their work to create a commercially viable product. We will also take time to try out their software and work through a few use cases, demonstrating the kind of value this tool can provide to other international development organizations, including yours!

Lunch will be served.
