The Path Towards Sustainability: Lessons from Denmark

In May, a group of people from Denver and across the US traveled to Denmark with the Wirth Chair and the American-Danish Business Council to learn about Danish solutions to sustainability issues.  The group met with Danish leaders; discussed Denmark’s plans to eliminate fossil fuels by 2050; learned about industrial symbiosis and climate adaptation planning; saw innovative renewable energy technologies, including large (up to 8 MW) wind turbines, wave energy, and waste incinerators; and toured Samsø Island, where 100% of electric energy comes from renewable sources.  On July 7, members of the trip delegation will share some of the lessons learned in Denmark, and there will be opportunities to discuss how these lessons might apply in Colorado and in the US.
