Join us for an evening of lively and intense discussion with Denver’s global development power couple. Barbara and Larry together have 50 years of senior-level global development experience. While they agree on the importance of international development and why it is in our interest to invest more in the developing world, they sometimes (and somewhat strongly) disagree on how to approach a given development challenge, the importance of good governance for sustainable development, or the role of the military in delivering assistance. Their conversation will be moderated by well-known Dan Baer.
Barbara Smith previously served as USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Policy Planning and Learning Bureau, Senior Director for Governance and Law at The Asia Foundation, and National Security Council Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan. She is the owner of Mountain Time Development consulting, Affiliate Faculty at Regis University, and one of the newest Posner Center Board Directors.
Larry Sampler previously served as USAID Assistant to the Administrator for Afghanistan & Pakistan Affairs, as well as the President of One Earth Future Foundation. Larry has built his career through the private sector, the military, and in post and intra-conflict missions of both the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the United Nations. He is the current Metro State University Vice President for Administration and Finance.
