Symposium Information:

The Posner Center 2021 Symposium is focused on anti-racism in development work, diversifying the global development field, and having a more equitable impact that begins to repair past and current injustices. We will collaborate and learn about ways we can disrupt deeply-rooted colonial and imperialist power structures and assumptions that are still embedded in our development work, and reimagine more just approaches for global impact. More information about the Symposium is available at posnercenter.org/symposium-2021.

We are looking for speakers who can present content related to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, belonging, and decolonization within global development. Some examples of specific topics might be How to lobby for decolonized foreign policies; informational sessions on specific countries’ colonial history or racism; Indigenous decolonization movements in the United States; understanding the colonial legacies in global development work; why we should stop calling it “development work”; or reimagining global impact.

We will prioritize presenters from formerly or currently colonized countries; from the majority world; Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); women, genderqueer, non-binary presenters; LGBTQIA+ presenters; and presenters with disabilities in the selection process. We will not accept applications that feature all White, all-male presenters, nor only presenters from the US or Europe as people with these identities tend to be overrepresented.
